Indiana State Police pulled over a motorist for driving 119 mph in a 55 mph zone. The motorist told police that he was speeding because he was late for his Evansville court appearance. The Indiana State Troopers were patrolling a dangerous part of Indiana 62 west of Evansville that is known as a stretch of road that has a high rate of accidents. The Troopers saw an automobile passing several different vehicles, than lost track of the vehicle early Tuesday morning. After losing site of the vehicle a different trooper caught sight of the car re-entering the road from a side street.
After pulling the speeding automobile over, Indiana Police arrested the driver of the vehicle, 24-year-old Joshua Smith, native to Omaha, lll. Police charged Joshua Smith with reckless driving and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail without bail awaiting a Wednesday court appearance. The jail records online have not indicated if Mr. Smith has an attorney yet. The Court date that Mr. Smith was late for was at Vanderburgh Circuit Court on charges of drug possession and failure to stop after an auto accident.
